OUR STORY

Friends of Lake Turkana (FoLT) is a grassroots organization founded in 2010, that works with and on behalf of the communities within the greater Turkana basin to demand their collective social, economic, environmental, cultural and territorial rights. Recognizing the anti-patriarchal struggle is a vision expressed in all areas of our work.

Our Mission & Approach

 Our mission is to; address socio-economic inequality; demand environmental justice; secure land and territorial rights and; seek for a social justice framework to addressing energy and climate change; and provide for women-led community advocacy

ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE

This thematic area is our commitment to honor and protect the rights of our habitat, fair treatment of all living things and promotion of environmental protection through education, advocacy, policy development, community awareness, and legal action.

RESOURCE GOVERNANCE

This thematic focus works towards advocating and lobbying for transparency and accountability of public and natural resources.

COMMUNITY RIGHTS

Through advocacy, litigation, education and rights monitoring, the thematic focus ensures that youth and women are protected, consulted and included in the decision-making processes as well as have a platform to hold government and companies accountable.
